How to cut particle board

Chipboard has many uses and is popular in scrapbooking. It can be mounted to the back of objects and cut out to increase the size of scrapbook pages. The dense structure of particleboard is stronger than corrugated board, making it an attractive choice for many uses. Cutting particleboard correctly is critical to a successful final product.

Step 1
Clean the cutting area. Make sure there is no paper debris around that could alter the height of the cutting surface.

Step 2
Draw the image to be cut onto the chipboard. If you are mounting something to the chipboard for cutting, it is best to mount the image first.

Step 3
If mounting the image, apply a thin, even coat of glue to the back of the image. Turn the image over and place the glued side of the image on the chipboard. Use the edge of a metal ruler to rub over the image and remove any air bubbles. Let it dry completely.

Step 4
Place the chipboard on the self-healing cutting mat in the clean work area. Place the chipboard with the image side up. Use a craft knife to gently go around the edge of the image to create a very shallow cut.

Step 5
Go around the image with the craft knife, again using more pressure to make a deeper cut. Continue cutting deeper around the image each time until the chipboard is cut away.
